
About Dr. Johannes Bitzer
Dr. Bitzer is Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital of Basel. During Dr. Bitzer’s specialization in obstetrics/gynecology, he was trained in behavioral sciences and psychotherapy. His research and practical interests are in contraceptive and menopause counseling, as well as menopausal therapies, contraceptive technology, epidemiology, sexual and reproductive health, and the interface between obstetrics/gynecology and psychology/psychiatry.
Dr. Bitzer is past President of the European Society of Contraception (ESC); co-founder of the French-speaking Society of Contraception; and member of several international executive and advisory boards in family planning, sexology, and menopause.
He was the Editor-in-Chief of The European Journal of Contraception & Reproductive Health Care until 2020 and was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Board & College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (EBCOG) between 2016 and 2020. He was Treasurer and Representative of EBCOG at the Multidisciplinary Joint Committee of Sexual Medicine and is Chair of the Executive Committee of the EBCOG/ESC Joint Committee on Curricula and Exams (Diploma, Fellowship) in Sexual and Reproductive Health Care.
