
About Dr. Claudio N. Soares
Dr. Soares is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Soares serves as Executive Lead for the Canadian Biomarker Integration Network in Depression and President of The Menopause Society. More recently, he became the inaugural Director for the Centre for Psychedelics Health and Research at Queen’s University.
Dr. Soares trained as a psychiatrist in Brazil, completing a PhD on the neuro-modulatory effects of estrogen and a postdoctoral fellowship in reproductive psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
His research has focused on novel treatments for menopausal women experiencing mood and anxiety disorders, vasomotor symptoms, and sleep problems. His most recent research explores digital health technologies for treatment monitoring and relapse prevention and the role of psychedelics as therapeutic agents. He has authored approximately 240 presentations at national and international meetings and more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in mood disorders and women’s mental health, including in JAMA, American Journal of Psychiatry, and Menopause, among others.
