Dr. Amanda Black

About Dr. Amanda Black 

Dr. Black is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Ottawa and an Associate Scientist at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. She is the past President of The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada.  

She completed medical training at the University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa, and Queen’s University and holds a Master in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.  She is recognized as a national and international expert in women's health, with more than 400 invited presentations and 200 publications.

Dr. Black has worked on, and developed, numerous women’s health initiatives during her career, including the National Contraception Awareness Program, the National Compassionate Contraception Program, website and app development, and national and international guidelines. She has provided expertise to Health Canada, Statistics Canada, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization. Dr. Black was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of the National Pharmacare Act in Canada, which provides universal contraception coverage for all Canadians.
